This afternoon at approximately 2pm, I saw an adult turkey vulture ride a
thermal over Hwy 16, just barely south of downtown Rapid City. The bird
crossed from the east side of the highway to the southwest, at the
approximate line of Zion Lutheran Church/School towards the Baptist Church
on the west side. It was quite low, and the red head was clearly visible.
I have never seen a vulture here this late in the year.
