Hi all,
Last night while searching through the eBird media for the county, I noticed an interesting picture of a gull taken on November 12 by Mark Zdeblick. It was reported as a Bonaparte's Gull, but appears to be a possible Franklin's Gull. The underwing is largely unmarked, with no clear black stripe on the trailing edge of the wing (which would be expected on Bonaparte's). The face also appears to have a hooded pattern, along with white eye arcs and a somewhat short, thick bill (all suggesting Franklin's). Any other feedback on the ID would be much appreciated. Unfortunately, there were no details, so I am not sure where the bird was seen. If anyone plans to search for it, checking the WQCP would be likely the best bet, although the FCB and Baylands proper could also be worth searching.
