Steve Colwell, Sue Cook, and I walked along Atascadero Creek this morning, starting at Patterson Avenue and walking west a little ways past the check dam. We had a fair amount of activity by expected birds, with Townsend's Warbler being particularly visible. Steve and Sue got some great photos of different Townsend's trying to grab spiders in the middle of their webs between branches. Unexpected find was a Wilson's Warbler Steve spotted about 2/3 of the way along the creek. We also had a female Scaup in the river channel with Buffleheads. Photos need more study to confirm species.
Afterward, we went over to Goleta Beach and with help from Eunice Schroeder, we located the gull flock at the western most end of the beach, which included an unexpected SIX Cattle Egrets. We had a nice assortment of gulls and shorebirds but nothing rare.
