Grey warbler with a fanned out tail, doing its best impression of a rectangle. I believe the tail pattern is distinctive too, with those lighter notches in the middle. Found by calls, which were new to me. My photos show consistently red armpits, not yellow. Weird.
Super active in the sycamore tree (34.4135311, -119.8417750), would not sit still but eventually she obliged. quieted down as it got closer to 5, but was still active and findable any time I looked up."

Moving constantly. Grayish below except for yellow near armpits. Black and yellow pattern on dorsal tail. Continuing in the tree where Alex found it earlier today."
American Redstart (Setophaga ruticilla) (1)
- Reported Nov 13, 2024 12:33 by Alex Castelein
- UCSB--campus, Santa Barbara, California

- Comments: "Drab yellowstart, likely a first year female. First picked up on it by the yellow-type chip as I was biking. Spent a few minutes looking and sure enough a redstart popped out. It seems to be favoring the large sycamore here (34.4135311, -119.8417750). I imagine, being this late, there’s a solid chance this bird overwinters and stays for the CBC"
