Hi all,
I hope this finds everyone well. Two unrelated items:
* A conveniently viewable Black Vulture roost exists in Sandy Springs, just north of Atlanta (Fulton Co.). It is about 1 mile north of the well-birded Morgan Falls Overlook Park & dam, along Roswell Road's southbound lanes. The vultures perch on a communication tower just behind Perfect Distraction Hair Salon at 8540 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs GA 30350, across from Aqua Splash Car Wash. Parking is available in front of the business. Nothing extraordinary but an impressive sight as the birds gather at dusk and disperse at dawn.
* For about 2 months now "my" Eastern Phoebes here (north Fulton Co.) have been vocalizing incessantly. I know about fall singing and territoriality but these birds have been utterly obssessive. I don't recall their calling so persistently in years past. Any thoughts, or is anyone seeing something similar ? My only guess: perhaps the prevailing, prolonged dry spell has reduced insect availability so the phoebes must defend a larger-than-usual territory, entailing more calling.
Best regards,
- Eran Tomer Atlanta, GA
