Subject: [southbaybirds] Coe Pileated Woodpeckers
Today we had 3 Pileated Woodpeckers at Henry Coe SP. They were in an associated group and calling back and forth between themselves. This is the largest number of this species we have observed in the park; our records go back 40 years. There are enough records over the last few years from us and others to posit that the species is now resident in the park in currently very small numbers. Our assumption is that the species moved across Coyote Valley to the Diablo Range from the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Other thoughts on this are most welcome.

James yurchenco, Amy Lauterbach.
