Took a drive over Figueroa this morning. It was a bit warmer up high so that was enjoyable compared to the chill in the valley. Nothing special but there were plenty of birds moving around as I made quick 20 minute stops at places that still had some understory. Trip list below.
On the way out along Happy Canyon Road I passed a road killed bird that seemed to be an Owl but not large enough to be a Great-horned..................screech (tires not owl). First inspection the bird appeared too small for Great-horned and showed a checkered pattern on the breast, talons seemed small for Great-horned. At this point I'm convinced it's a Long-eared Owl, head was pretty well obliterated so not much there. Links to photos below, any thoughts yeah or nay on the ID of the Owl welcomed. Long-eared simply not reported too often away from a few know locations so thought this worth posting. Closest address was 6777 Happy Canyon Road.
