Termites were swarming today, as they do after the first fall rain. I
came across birds snapping them up first on Harry Road. A variety of
woodland birds flew out and more birds on the ground flushed as each car
passed. This cheeky HERMIT THRUSH in photo, stayed put eating one after
the other.
TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS were going after termites on Guadalupe Greek trail.
They were joined by RUBY CROWNED KINGLETS, YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS,
BUSHTITS and more.
I checked the Pistache trees off Guadalupe Mines Road and found CEDAR
WAXWINGS, W. BLUEBIRDS, YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS and a WESTERN TANAGER
pair eating berries. ROBINS and HERMIT THRUSH were here too. I attached
photos of the male tanager but missed the very dull female that
accompanied the male.
Fontana Park had another swarm, here BLUEBIRDS and YELLOW RUMPED
WARBLERS were the main species going after the termites.
Yesterday I saw two CHIPPING SPARROWS in TJ Martin park.
