As it happened between 0835 and 0900Saw a flock of Canvasbacks and explained them to a fisherman. When I went for the scope, the group had split. North were the canvasbacks and south were redheads. With one male redhead swam two black ducks with a definite white notch at the shoulder: ring-necked ducks. Panning south I saw two more black/white ducks but without the notch: lesser scaup. The ruddy ducks had been out of focus due to a fogged-up scope, but when that cleared, there were thirteen ruddies. Swimmers nearby were American coots, pied-billed grebe, mallards and double-crested cormorants. Later arrivals included Canada geese and ring-billed gulls. No black-crowned night-herons or wood ducks today.26 species, yesterday only 16.Sharon
