Saw my FOS short-eared owls this evening!! A small group of us happened to be at Paintbrush Prairie and I saw the first two, alerted the others, and they saw three of them. We watched for a bit and shortly after the group was gone, I happened to look to the sunset and saw EIGHT of them together, briefly, before they dispersed. Counted a couple times to rule out any harriers, since we did see at least one harrier.
For those unfamiliar with these two counties, there are multiple prairies owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Prairie Foundation. It will be a fun winter seeing how many of these prairies have SEOW this season!
