Hi all -
I led a bird walk at Calero Reservoir this morning. I felt the bird
activity was rather low, but it was a spectacular fall morning with a
few great species. The *WESTERN GREBES* continue to occupy the reservoir
and we observed some adults still feeding juvenile birds. Few duck
species today, but we enjoyed a single *BUFFLEHEAD* male was striking
with a few *RUDDY DUCKS* and a pair of *GADWALLS*.
Both the *SAY's* and *BLACK PHOEBES* were here. A *SPOTTED SANDPIPER*
flew through our view. A single *CACKLING* *GOOSE* swam up close giving
all great looks - a life bird for many. An *AMERICAN PIPIT* was also
found along the boat ramp and a few more were observed in the parking
lot north of the entrance road. *KILLDEER* were here too. A *ROCK WREN*
was also sitting on top and singing from the post along the entrance
road before the kiosk. *TREE SWALLOWS* were also flying overhead.
*RED-TAILED HAWKS* of all ages were observed along with an immature
*COOPER'S HAWK* and kiting *WHITE-TAILED KITES*.
