Most mornings, I take at least a short walk at Denison Bio Reserve. Overall, it's been quiet (not unexpected for the time of year) but I usually find a few birds. Over the last several days, I've seen Purple Finches altho the last time I saw them was early in the week, 2 females & 1 male in berry-laden trees where Cedar Waxwings, Hermit Thrushes & Robins were also feasting. Perhaps they have now moved on. After only seeing them once 4 years ago at the Reserve, it's been a treat to see them semi-regularly. I usually see or at least hear Hermit Thrushes most days. I've also seen or heard Fox Sparrows a couple times this week; ditto, juncos. Fox Sparrows have such a lovely song.
Sometimes large kettles of vultures are around, usually a mix of Black & Turkey altho sometimes I see kettles that are almost all Black Vultures. I've been a little surprised that kinglets are not around more. I see singles on occasion of both Ruby-crowned & Golden-crowned. Today, I spooked 6 Wood Ducks off one of the ponds. Not much else today except at least 3 Hermit Thrushes, a couple Bluebirds & several Robins. The resident Red-tailed was being harassed by the crows. Peggy WangGranville
