Thankfully Owen Slater got me on the drabber of the two birds not long after I arrived. Associating with yellow rumps in pines at NE section of park. Might have seen the brighter individual once very briefly, but couldn’t confirm. Fairly large, stout billed warbler with weak lemon yellow on throat and most of underside, yellow spectacles, greenish face, back, and crown, 2 bold white wingbars, and whitish belly and undertail coverts. White tail corners seen well in flight. Great looks at this bird, but eventually disappeared into pines and unable to relocate, despite thoroughly searching every tree multiple times. State bird!"

Pine Warbler (Setophaga pinus) (2) CONFIRMED
- Reported Nov 06, 2024 08:38 by Herb Elliott
- Mentone Basin Park, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "Both birds had unstreaked upperparts, two pale wing-bars, dark legs, relatively stout bills; dark streaking on breast and flanks, and white from lower belly through undertail-coverts.
The first bird I saw looked similar to the nearby Yellow-rumped Warblers without the patch of yellow on rump and sides of upper breast, and no streaking on back.
The second bird had olive-green upperparts, yellow throat with more contrastingly darker streaking on breast and flanks.
Both birds were found earlier this morning by K.H. - great find!"
