Subject: Arboretum walk report
Hi Folks,

I forgot to advertise here that we scheduled Nov and Dec monthly bird walks, so it was with relief that some folks showed up on Wednesday morning (thanks to the advertisement on the Arboretum events calendar) for a beautiful and balmy fall morning.

The biggest bird highlight was a Merlin perched up on a snag along our route.

The human highlights were all the familiar people who joined and especially cohosting with Jasper Chao (a past club meeting speaker about vultures), for whom it was the first time to lead a bird walk.

The December walk is Dec 5 at 8 am.

We are also close to confirming the plan for our first nocturnal walk at the arboretum, from 5pm to 6:30 pm on Tuesday Nov 19th. It will also be colead by Jasper and I. Meeting at the Overlook Pavilion at sunset we expect to see robins coming in to roost, hear white throated sparrows doing their evening goodnight chirp chorus, and if we are lucky, we may find an owl. I will send an update once this plan is confirmed, but if this sounds like fun to you, pencil it in. If it's popular we may start running dusk walks regularly. When I was in Quito I joined a community group that regularly did night walks in a forested city park (mostly for exercise and peace not really looking for wildlife), and it was quite charming.

Joe
