Subject: Zoo Lake today
I waited until 1240 to arrive, and saw the first ring-billed gulls of the season.  The cormorants were in the trees and swimming and in the air.  In an hour there were about sixty.A flashy male spotted towhee greeted me from a nearby bush and stood for awhile.  A fox sparrow flew from the grass, and a golden-crowned kinglet called repeatedly.Today I saw my first flock of goldfinches, in the high weeds on the hill near the Camp Tribeca entrance. About sixteen birds were foraging on the seeds and flying into the trees nearby.  The lake has gadwall and ruddy ducks in addition to a few mallards and great blue herons.  Another good day!Sharon
