11/6 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10am-1PM. low tide-rising, sunny, windy, 70F-74F. A warm fall day at the center, with winds blowing the golden marsh grasses horizontally. We had many visitors today, some from Mystic CT and some from New York City-admiring our grounds and birds. We also got 2 new "residents"- 2 snakes- Truffles (hognose snake) and Tolstoy (Russian black rat snake). Stop in to see them on your next visit. On the marsh: (viewed with scope & bins)- about 100 Canada Geese, 200 Brant, the family of Mute swans (6), about 50 Black Bellied plovers on a mudflat, 15 American Black ducks and 1 D.C. Cormorant who flew over and then decided to land in the water and go fishing. On the grounds and feeders: 2 Tufted titmice, 7 House finches & 5 House sparrows -some bathing, 2 White throated sparrows, 2 White breasted nuthatches, 1 Blue Jay and 2 Chickadees, 1 Cardinal and a singing Carolina wren.
