Subject: [MBBIRDS] Yellow-bellied? Sapsucker at Bethany Curve
I visited Bethany Curve Park at Alta this morning where there was a lot of bird activity but no Nashville Warbler that I could find. Initially, the birch trees on the north side of Alta above the feeders at 242 Alta had a Red-breasted Sapsucker. Later it was replaced in the identical spot by a different sapsucker, which I attempted to photograph and identify. The bird had rather messy plumage and I thought it was likely a hybrid or just unidentifiable. Upon inspection of the photos, I see no red nape, and there appears to be significant black between the red throat and the white facial stripe, so I am tentatively calling it a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. I would be happy to hear more expert opinions.

The photos are in the eBird list at
