> Hello birders:
>
> Christmas Bird County season is rapidly approaching, and I am once again
> looking for volunteers to participate in *Sea and Sage's 4th Annual Puente
> - Chino Hills Christmas Bird Count*. Covering northern Orange County , as
> well as bits of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, this very new CBC
> circle nevertheless tallied over 140 species last year, including
> Ferruginous Hawk, Hammond's Flycatcher, Red-naped Sapsucker, Neotropic
> Cormorant, Sage Thrasher, and Black-headed Grosbeak. Notable hotspots
> within the circle include Carbon Canyon, Craig, Yorba, and Santiago Oaks
> Regional Parks, the Upper Santa Ana River from the 241 freeway to
> Orangewood Ave, Gilman, Laguna Lake, and Anaheim Coves Parks, West Coyote Hills
> , the Villa Park Flood Control Basin, and most of Chino Hills State Park.
>
> The count will take place *Saturday, December 28, 2024.* Everyone is
> welcome to count for either a half-day or full-day (most do the former).
> Birders of all skill levels are welcome.
> To sign-up, simply fill out the quick google form here (
> https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdnjOLNtJYAwHFAS4YnobLcjA2PSXhAQfHRo57iIy2l78p_Ag/viewform > ). Starting around the beginning of December I will begin reaching out to
> counters with more information, including routes and timing. If you are
> new to the Christmas Bird Count , I highly recommend you check out this
> page from the National Audubon Society (
> https://www.audubon.org/answers-your-top-questions-about-christmas-bird-count > ) , which goes over the protocol of the survey as well as its history and
> contribution to science and conservation.
>
> Check out an ebird trip report of last year's count here (
> https://ebird.org/tripreport/187433 ). This is always a fun and
> interesting count that contributes to knowledge of birds in perhaps the
> least birded part of the county , and I hope to see many of you there!
