Hi all,
I visited Laguna Avenue in Coyote Valley today (11/3) after seeing a report of 4 Mountain Bluebirds by Howard Friedman and Melissa Johnson earlier today. Surprisingly, there was very little traffic leading up to Spina Farms when I went - this is the last day that it is open this year, and there should be fairly little traffic in Coyote Valley for the rest of the fall/winter. I birded along most of the road, at times with several others (including Howard and Gaurav Manglik), but was unable to find any Mountain Bluebirds. It was fairly windy today, which may have been keeping songbirds down. I was still able to find at least one White-throated Swift, two Golden Eagles, a Loggerhead Shrike (my first in the county in some time) near the corral, and three Tricolored Blackbirds mixed in with other blackbirds. I also saw several Great Egrets - this area could be worth checking for Western Cattle Egret in the next few weeks, as there were also cows present today. After birding Laguna and talking with Howard, I decided to go to the pond on Bailey Avenue in case the bluebirds had flown there, though a brief search of the area did not produce any bluebirds.
