12 new species were added to the San Francisco City list in October, bringing the total to 307, 3 species ahead of where we were at the end of October last year (which was a record). We are four species away from last year's record 311. The first ever Mountain Plover was spotted on October 18th. A Pileated Woodpecker found on the 29th was the first ever seen in the fall. The other firsts for the year were Bobolink, Laughing Gull, Lapland Longspur, Common Poorwill, Blue Grosbeak, Ashy Storm-Petrel, Short-eared Owl, Swamp Sparrow, Ferruginous Hawk and Long-eared Owl.
