This update of Tucson Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert for Southeast
Arizona was made on November 1, 2024; the next update will be made on
November 8.
Abbreviation "m.ob." = multiple observers. An asterisk (*) preceding a
species name in the list indicates that it merits careful, full
documentation. A pound sign (#) indicates that brief corroborating details
are warranted.
Where directions are not given, they can be found in the most recent
edition of Tucson Audubon's "Finding Birds in Southeast Arizona". Note that
all hyperlinks and maps have been removed from this version because of

SANTA CRUZ FLATS
A *BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER continued at Evergreen Turf Sod Farm at Tweedy &
Pretzer on 10/26 (m.ob.). Friendly reminder: Management at the Evergreen
Turf Sod Farm has asked birders not to drive into the property (i.e., the
2750 road); birding from perimeter roads (i.e., Tweedy or Pretzer) is still
fine.
AJO
Three #HEERMANN’S GULLS were photographed at the Ajo STP on 10/28 (Vikki
Jackson). An #EASTERN PHOEBE was photographed on 10/28 (Greg Gillson) and
continued through 11/1.
AMADO
Two #HEERMANN’S GULLS were photographed at the Amado STP on 10/26 (Mike
Ostrowski).
SIERRA VISTA & the HUACHUCAS
A #RUDDY GROUND DOVE continued at the Sierra Vista EOP on 10/27 (m.ob.).
The Sunday walk grants access to a larger area than is normally available,
and begins every Sunday promptly at 7 am. It is free but limited to the
first fifteen people.
Three #RUDDY GROUND DOVES were photographed at the Hereford Bridge on 10/28
(Ron Beck).
Two #RUDDY GROUND DOVES were reported at the Hwy 92 bridge on 10/30 (Peter
Siminski).
A #TENNESSEE WARBLER was reported at Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary on 10/27
(Tim Blount).
A #YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was photographed along the San Pedro River in
Escapule Wash on 10/26 (Peter Siminski). A #GRAY CATBIRD and #RUDDY
GROUND-DOVE were photographed on 10/28 (Steve Svedeman).
GREEN VALLEY & the SANTA RITAS
In Madera Canyon, a #BERYLLINE HUMMINGBIRD continued at the Santa Rita
Lodge through 11/1 (m.ob.). A #RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER and a LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSH were photographed above Proctor Rd on 10/26 (Mike Ostrowski)
and 10/31 Clayton Borzini), respectively.
A #TENNESSEE WARBLER continued at Canoa Ranch Conservation Park through
10/26 and a #YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and continued through 10/30 (m.ob.).
A #TENNESSEE WARBLER was photographed on 10/28 (Nick Pulcinella) in a Green
Valley yard.
#GRAY CATBIRDS were reported in two different Green Valley yards on 10/30
(Dick Bierman) and on 10/31 (Rob Rutledge).
TUCSON area
#YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS were reported at the Arizona-Sonora Desert
Museum on 10/29 (Michael Sadat), Tahoe Park on 10/26 (Andrea Serrano), Wes
Miller Park on 11/1 (Nate Peterson), Sam Lena Park and KERP on 10/19 (Nate
Peterson), Sabino Canyon Recreation Area on 10/30 (Jessica Wills) and
Columbus Park on 10/27 and 11/1 (m.ob.).
A #RUFOUS-BACKED ROBIN continued at Sweetwater Wetlands through 10/30
(m.ob.), and #TENNESSEE WARBLER and a #YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continued
across the street at Agua Nueva Park this week (m.ob.).
A #TENNESSEE WARBLER continued at the University of Arizona on 11/1
(Tristan McKnight). A #SCARLET TANAGER was photographed just east of the
hospital on 10/30 (Tristan McKnight) and continued on 10/31 (m.ob.). GPS:

A #THICK-BILLED LONGSPURS continued at the Avra Valley WWTP on 10/27
(m.ob.). If the gate is locked, try the call box; gate is locked for the
day at 2pm.
A #PACIFIC WREN was photographed on 10/26 (Brian Nicholas) at the Sunset
Trailhead in lower Bear Wallow on Mt. Lemmon.
An #EASTERN PHOEBE was photographed at Crossroads Park in Marana on 10/31
(Nate Peterson) near the playground.
A #CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was reported from the confluence of the Santa
Cruz River & the Rillito on 10/30 (Jake Thomspon).
TUBAC area
A #YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was photographed along the Anza Trail at
Tumacacori on 10/31 and 11/1 (Cathy Beck). A #TENNESSEE WARBLER was
photographed on 10/30 (Bill Lisowsky).
A #BALTIMORE ORIOLE was photographed along Santa Gertrudis Lane on 10/29
(Cathy Beck).
PATAGONIA
A #YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported at the Arizona Birding Guides
feeders on 10/26 and 10/27 (m.ob.).
A #RUFOUS-BACKED ROBIN was reported at the Paton Center for Hummingbirds on
10/29 (Tom Brown).
