Hi all,
This afternoon Greg Gray found a BEAN-GOOSE species off of Jackson Ranch Rd
in the Arcata Bottoms. This bird has a pretty long bill may seem
Taiga-Bean-Goose-like but, with that 2010 Salton Sea bird relegated to a
slash Taiga/Tundra Bean slash combo, caution in identifying this bird to
species is warranted. It would be great to get some expert opinion on it! I
currently eBirded the bird as a Taiga, just to get the eBird alert out
(eBird doesn't send out slash combo alerts) but please don't take that ID
as fully confirmed (as I already stated above).
Greg first saw the bird from these coordinates: 40°52'24.3"N 124°08'05.7"W.
The bird and the rest of the cackling geese it was hanging out with flew up
and headed a bit northeast and others refound it here: 40°52'24.3"N
124°08'05.7"W (distant looks). Later it was found again from Jackson Ranch
Road a bit north from Greg's original observation.
This bird might just go down as a slash in the future but it is probably
worth people looking for it.
