Date: 10/31/24 3:29 am From: Tom Fiore <tomfi2...> Subject: [nysbirds-l] New York County, NYC - to Oct. 30 - Red-headed WP, Clay-colored Sparrow, etc.
New York County - in N.Y. City - including Governors, Randalls, Roosevelt, and Manhattan islands and the adjacent waters and skies above -
thru Wed, October 30th -
A first-fall plumaged Red-headed Woodpecker lingered at Governors Island from at least Monday, 10/28 and the day after, could possibly be a longer-lingering individual on that island which is just south of Manhattan.
A Clay-colored Sparrow was found at Central Park on Tuesday, Oct. 29th with the non-profit guided bird walk done for the American Museum of Natural History, with multiple observers during the walk.
A Yellow-crowned Night Heron was photographed on Oct. 26 In the area of The Pond at Central Parks southeast corner, an uncommon species at best in that park especially in the fall.
A hen Wild Turkey was recently continuing on as it has for months on Roosevelt Island, which is immediately east of a portion of Manhattan island.
Various warbler species have continued to at least Wednesday in the county, including up to 8 species still at Central Park on that penultimate day of October, with Orange-crowned Warbler continuing its good run this month with a photographed Wednesday Oct. 30th sighting in Central Park. The last confirmed sighting of a Northern Waterthrush at Central Park was for October 25th. No other warbler species reported were running exceedingly late as to late-date records. A bit of a recap of October may be offered in coming days.
Thanks to many quiet, courteous, keen observers and photographers finding many birds and offering reports thru non-x alerts as well as many eBird reports including photos or other media via the Macaulay Library.
Good birding to all,
Tom Fiore
