Western Flycatcher (Empidonax difficilis) (1)
- Reported Oct 30, 2024 08:55 by Nick & Jane
- Meadow Park--San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6606531&<ll...>,-120.6606531 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S200819133 - Comments: "Small empid with eyerings. Likely a pac-slope. Didn’t vocalize. Dirty wingbars. Was perched in the open but nothing struck me that this greenish bird with yellowy underside was any other flycatcher. The bill was mediumish to small. Head sorta pointy. Didn’t get a good look at primaries though it was in the open. Opted for photo instead of studying fieldmarks but it flew southward into yard and didn’t return. Was low in tree next to wooden creek fence in the western park area west of Exposition Dr. no pic"

Merlin also picked up its vocalization, even though I could not hear it. Photos to be posted soon."

Field Sparrow (Spizella pusilla) (1)
- Reported Oct 30, 2024 07:58 by Herb Elliott
- Oso Flaco Lake (not for beach/ocean), San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "I had a brief observation of this bird late morning near the entrance gate to the parking lot. This sparrow had a distinct white eye-ring, a pinkish bill and legs, two creamy wing bars and a plain breast. Unlike the Chipping Sparrow seen earlier that had a dull bill, a rusty crown, and a black eyeline. Very rare bird in California, second county record."
