Many thanks to the Brevoorts for generously allowing birders to see the young male Anna’s in their yard. They were most welcoming to everyone. Please adhere to the instructions & hours so we don’t wear out our welcome.b(see below for details).
Thx to the birders already there in pointing out where the hummer was perched. And thank you to everyone who sent directions/instructions on this list!
When I first arrived, the bird was perched on a tomato cage, not far off the ground, preening. Then it flew onto the yard feeder, and then into the maple tree. After that, it disappeared for a while, but was spotted in a farther tree, higher up, before it came back into the yard feeder. I did not see it come into the driveway feeder but there were perhaps eight people in the driveway so perhaps it’s a little intimidated to use that feeder with people around.
Here is detailed info I was forwarded from FB from a couple people on the listserve:
“There is a juvenile male ANNA’S HUMMINGBIRD being hosted by Gerry Brevoort at her home in Clintonville (Franklin County), a third state record. It has been present since the middle of last week, but Leslie and I were able to definitively identify it today. She is excited and willing to host birders, but with very specific conditions. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY AND STRICTLY ADHERE TO THESE RULES. Failure to do so will result in immediate closure and access will be revoked.
Visitation will be open on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2024 ONLY between the hours of 9am-4pm. Gerry’s address is 171 Erie Road Columbus, OH 43214. Please park along the street and walk up the driveway beside the house. There are two feeders the bird is making use of; one right beside the house along the driveway and the other is in the backyard. Unless told otherwise, please stand ONLY in the driveway to avoid spooking him. There are public restrooms at the Whetstone Public Library 3 blocks north if needed. Any further openings will be communicated on this post as they are determined. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SHOW UP OUTSIDE OF ESTABLISHED VISITATION HOURS.
Also present are TWO different Ruby-throated Hummingbirds.”
