Yesterday, I explored Coyote Valley. I started at the Coyote Creek Visitor Center <https://ebird.org/hotspot/L790030>. Where I walked to the bridge and along the creek. I found a Hermit Thrush by the creek and two Red-tailed Hawks calling over the open field. Near the prickly pear by the parking lot at least five Wood Ducks were in the water. A Belted Kingfisher called and flew down the creek.
Next, I went over to the Anderson Lake Live Oak <https://ebird.org/hotspot/L10114681/> area. The area was pretty quiet but I saw a Belted Kingfisher. I’m not sure if it was the same one as at the other location.
Finally, I stopped at Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve <https://ebird.org/hotspot/L1454658> at the end of Palm Avenue. I really like this spot because you can sit at a picnic table and get a lot of great birds. Raptors included Prairie Falcon, American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Golden Eagle, and Turkey Vulture. I watched as a Golden Eagle swooped down to catch a ground squirrel but was unsuccessful. Other fun birds at this spot were Western Meadowlark, Say’s Phoebe, Yellow-billed Magpie, and Tricolored Blackbird.
I was going to head to Laguna Avenue before heading home but the traffic on Santa Teresa was backed up all the way to Palm Avenue.
