Subject: [northbaybirds] Hawk ID - Krider's Red-tailed? Ferruginous?
Hello NBB,

I just joined your group with the hope that someone can help with a hawk ID.  I do not live in the North Bay, but have a non-birder friend who lives in Mill Valley.  While on a morning walk on Sept 27 my friend saw a very large hawk at the top of a big pine tree.  She sent me a photo that she took with her iPhone.  The Merlin app says it is a red-tailed.  There is no belly-band that I can see, and the breast seems unmarked and very pale.  I wonder if it could be a Krider's, or perhaps a Ferruginous.  My friend was particularly impressed by the size of the bird which seemed unusually large to her.  Any information that you can provide would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

Wanda
