I saw it well, but unfortunately through the wire fencing, so could not get the camera to focus before it slipped down to the pond, out of sight. I waited for 30+ minutes but no show. Also stopped by on return from Guada Dunes, about 17:30 but all Mallards were gone, zero.
(only Shovelers, Ruddy and Coots left)."

Blackburnian Warbler (Setophaga fusca) (1)
- Reported Oct 27, 2024 08:18 by Conor McMahon
- Franceschi Park, Santa Barbara, California

- Comments: "Seen for a couple seconds very early in my visit in a lerpy red gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) immediately next to the parking lot. I snapped a couple terrible photos, then the bird flew and I didn't see it again during the rest of the visit despite spending most of the next ~ 2.5 hrs looking at red gums. Visitors should be advised that while the area visible from the parking lot has a few red gum trees, there's actually a much more extensive area of red gums which continues west and north and which is accessible on foot through some (at times very steep) dirt trails. Warbler flocks were moving around a lot between lerpy areas.
Photos show a warbler with two strong wing bars, yellowish wash anteriorly to orangish on throat, dark auriculars in a distinctive triangular pattern which extends sharply down at lower rear end and points up at upper rear end, strong supercilium, possibly some faint flank streaking, faint light-colored 'braces' on back."

Very poor view due to sun direction and bird perched partially in shade among branches. Photos lightened (more than preferred) and show the grayish cheek and bill with dark upper mandible and blue-gray lower mandible, red crown and underparts."
