Today I saw a rough legged hawk in the vicinity of Fall mountain in North Walpole. I first spotted it near the two cornfields right before the Cold River empties out into the Connecticut I had turned down that road that goes by those corn fields and just after aubuchon I saw a large bird soaring over the far cornfield. As soon as I got it in my binoculars it took off over some trees and I actually pursued it across several locations as it remained airborne ultimately catching up with it again right near the place where you cross the railroad tracks in front of the train yard. I was able to get a good look at it in my binoculars and then match it up to the rough legged hawk in my siblies guide, which is the species I suspected it of being in the first place. It had areas of both white and brown underneath it and it was slightly smaller than the turkey vultures but far larger than the peregrine falcon which were also hanging around the area.
