Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: John Mercer
Observers: Bob Kelly
Weather: Very sunny, with occasional wispy clouds which were no help at all. Temperature started in the low 40's and climbed into the low 60's. Winds started NNW but slowly rotated to WSW by the end of the day.
Raptor Observations: If I counted every time a local eagle popped up in the distance, I would have about 12 Bald Eagles. I know I had at least 4 individuals, 2 adult, 1 Juvenile and ! third year. Local birds: Bald Eagle, both Vultures, Red-tailed, Red-shouldered and Cooper's Hawks. An odd day in October when you get as many Harriers as Turkey Vultures migrating.
Non-raptor Observations: Lots of Robins in the morning an =d Tree Swallows in the afternoon. A flock of17 Canada Geese looked like they were migrating and a flock of about 40 Common Grackles went the correct direction.
Predictions: Tomorrow will start out around 50 and climb to the mid 60's with some clouds and a lot of wind. The wind will be out of the NW at 12-17 mph with higher gusts. Could be a nice day for birds except for the Bark in the Park, will take over our site for the day, so there will be mobs of people and dogs, not great viewing opportunities, with lots of tents in our viewing line. ======================================================================== Report submitted by John Mercer (<mercer1135...>) Rose Tree Park information may be found at: www.rtphawkwatch.org
