Subject: The return of Herring Gulls, and other birds on the river Re: [LACoBirds] Red throated pipit LA river
Hi all,

The small pipit flock did take to the air and flew south of the Slauson Ave
bridge after sunset. There appeared to be more pipits than usual today at
various points along the river, and I hope the bird sticks. There is
certainly more vegetation than usual this year in the river, and good water
flow.

Mark and I stopped at three locations this afternoon -- the gull flock at
26th St, the stretch between Downey Rd and Bandini Blvd, and the stretch
between Atlantic and Slauson. Before we found the Red-throated Pipit, the
most exciting news was the return of Herring Gulls to the river for the
season. We found 7 birds in total at 26th and Downey (4 first cycle, 1
second cycle, 2 adult), and these have all arrived in the past week or so
since either of us last visited the river. A Northern Pintail was a
new hotspot bird at Downey Rd. Three of the four Lesser Black-backed Gulls
that have been on the river this month continued between Atlantic and
Slauson.

Good birding,
Naresh
