Subject: [ia-bird] American Avocet - Cedar Lake Linn - lake is draining
Hey folks-

There is an American Avocet on the smaller south cell of Cedar Lake (south
of the railroad tracks) - the bird was visible from the first bridge near
the parking area, but was very far south.

The work on the flood control structures seems to have necessitated a
drawdown of the water levels, and the water is as low as it's been since
I've been in CR. About 300 Am. W. Pelicans have been attracted to the lake
and are taking advantage of the easy fishing. I saw one with a fairly large
carp or buffalo in its gular pouch, making very little progress getting the
fish down. Attending them are Ring-billed and a few Bonaparte's Gulls.

While I don't have much else beyond the usual suspects (which, at Cedar
Lake are usually VERY pedestrian), the unusual conditions could attract
more interesting species.
