Observation start time: 11:30:00 Observation end time: 16:00:00 Total observation time: 4.5 hours
Official Counter: Craig Jackson
Observers: Bill Shapiro
Weather: Very strange wind patterns today. Throughout the day the winds were variable switching back and forth from NW to SW and W in between. Winds began light (2) and then increased to moderate (3). Beginning at 12 noon wind gusts were almost equally strong from both the NW and from the SW, with maximum gusts from both directions being 14 km/hr. Temperature went from 19-22-20° C. Cloud cover started with about 40% cirrus "horsetails," mostly south of the Rock to less than 1% cloud cover at the end of the watch
Raptor Observations: Small movement of raptors Non-migrating -- 1 TV and at least 1 RT
Non-raptor Observations:
Predictions: Tomorrow's winds will be mostly from the east and thus not favorable for migration. Wednesday's winds will be SSW increasing in the late morning, again only slightly more favorable for migration. However, Thursday should be a good day for migrating hawks as the wind will again be strong from the NW. As Previously noted, I have a doctor's appointment mid-day on Thursday, so will only be able to be on site late in the afternoon, if at all. If somebody can cover that day it would be highly appreciated. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Craig Jackson (<crleja1949...>)
