Unfortunate news from Borrego Springs:
The manager of the RoadRunner Club/The Springs told a birder today that birders are no longer welcome at this hotspot.
At the time, the birder didn't know he was speaking to the manager, and when the birder called the general operations number to ask if he could leave his name and number for the manager, he was rudely told that the manager has no time to call him back.
I heard also that a birding couple was kicked out of The Springs this past weekend.
This is a tough one. It is private property. They don't make any money off us.The grass has been re-seeded, but should be good to go in a week. A large construction project to put in new natural gas lines has begun, and apparently this will continue into May.
Up until now, RoadRunner has always been the most welcoming of all the "country clubs" in Borrego.
I don't know how much of a catalyst it may have been for the change, but the Virginia's Warbler has been an attraction for birders as well, and it's right at the club entrance.
