Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 16:00:00 Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Caroline Fegley
Observers: Cameron Johnson, Chuck Carlson, Glen & Lori Chretien, Mike Gebo
Visitors: 230 including John Ranta and his family of aspiring hawkwatchers
Weather: Mostly clear skies. Only clouds were thin cirrus. Light W/SW/WSW winds. 10-16 C (50-61 F). Hazy.
Raptor Observations: On top of the warm temperatures, migration was reminiscent of September with good harrier numbers and one osprey. The reminders that the date was October 20th were a surprise adult light-morph rough-legged hawk and our strong hopes for a golden eagle (which unfortunately never came to fruituon).
Non-raptor Observations: Like yesterday, not a lot of the usual corvid action. 6 ravens, 5 bluejays, 7 yellow-rumped warblers, 3 red-breasted nuthatches, 8 pine siskins, 6 juncos, 5 chickadees, 1 american goldfinch, 16 canada geese, and 1 downy woodpecker
Predictions: Warm and sunny again. Light WSW/W winds.
On this day in Pack history... "2022: Levi Burford on a ""pretty slow day for migrants"": ""The highlight of the day was a Peregrine pest who bugged a Red-tailed Hawk, several ravens, and two Merlins at the end of the day. The Merlins and Peregrine brought the party right next to the platform and the absolute highlight came at 4:58 when one of the Merlins, being chased by the Peregrine came so close to the platform I could feel, not just hear, the whoosh of air just through the trees as they streaked by. I'm not sure I've seen Peregrine action that close to the watch.....I think the Merlins were enjoying the attention."" ======================================================================== Report submitted by Caroline Fegley (<cgfegley...>) Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory information may be found at: www.harriscenter.org
