Members of the Northern Hills Bird Club (NHBC) met in Sundance Saturday 10/19 and birded old Sundance Road and Keyhole Dam. Good weather with sunny skies and temperatures from 38 to 58 along with some Wyoming wind. Eagle sightings started off the day with several Bald and Golden eagles. The trip centered around finding migrating Sandhill Cranes which were not seen until late in the afternoon when numerous flocks and 100's of Cranes started arriving on the North side of Keyhole Dam along US 14. Sightings of interest include many Common Loons, one Red-necked Grebe, Western Grebes plus small numbers of songbirds including Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Orange and Yellow-rumped Warbler, and lots of Robins and White-crowned Sparrows. Shorebird sightings were Killdeer and Greater Yellowlegs.
Trip sightings were Common Loon, Western and Red-necked Grebe, American White Pelican, DC Cormorant, Canada Goose, Mallard, Gadwall, Northern Shoveler, Ruddy Duck, Bald and Golden Eagle, American Kestrel, Wild Turkey, Sandhill Crane, Killdeer, Great Yellowlegs, Ring-billed Gull, Rock Dove, Northern Flicker, Horned Lark, Blue Jay, Black-billed Magpie, American Crow, Black-capped Chickadee, White-breasted and Red-breasted Nuthatch, American Robin, Mountain Bluebird, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, European Starling, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped Warbler, Western Meadowlark, Junco, and White-crowned Sparrow.
