Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 16:00:00 Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Caroline Fegley
Observers: Chuck Carlson, Tom Momeyer
Visitors: 108, not including our loyal daily 4pm visitor who I finally learned is named Chip and not "4pm Guy".
Weather: Warm enough to be barefoot on the platform 2-11 C (36-52 F). Sunny with NE/NNE/N winds light and becoming almost non-existent in the afternoon. Hazier than yesterday.
Raptor Observations: Migrant numbers low, but steady throughout. Lead counter could be spotted laying on the ground pointing to migrants high in the blue invisible to standing spectators.
Non-raptor Observations: 6 bluejays, 3 yellow-rumped warblers, 2 black-capped chickadees, 5 eastern bluebirds, 3 juncos, 7 american goldfinches, 24 ravens, 4 american crows, 1 red-breasted nuthatch, 22 canada geese spotted by Tom Momeyer in his new scope, and 1 morning mystery waterfowl
Predictions: Might as well dig your summer clothes back out of your attics. Temps will continue to rise, sun will persist, and winds will be light and variable.
On this day in Pack history... "2019: A good reminder from Levi Burford: ""In an attempt to help you prepare for visits to the watch I want to make a couple of suggestions for clothing. First thing to consider is that we are standing on the top of a mountain about 1500' to 1000' in elevation above the surrounding valleys. Also, when there is wind in the forecast it can have considerable bite to it. Also, keep in mind that you might be standing still for a while. All three factors play a huge role in how comfortable you will be. I suggest wearing a lot more clothing than what you would wear if you were walking around a park or wastewater treatment plant (birders!) down in the valley. I say this because I would like you to come up and hang out with me as long as you can while remaining comfortable. In the upcoming weeks it is going to get colder and the wind is going to blow harder, so don several jackets and your snow pants and come join me!"" ======================================================================== Report submitted by Caroline Fegley (<cgfegley...>) Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory information may be found at: www.harriscenter.org
