- Comments: "As reported by Eric Culbertson and John Callender, juvenile sapsucker working hard on trees in front of 4525 and 4505 La Tierra Lane. Poor lighting but primarily brown splotchy plumage. Ruffled appearance. White vertical wing patch. No visible red showed on crown or throat."

Originally entered as sapsucker sp.; changing to Yellow-bellied based on much-appreciated feedback from helpful experts, one of whom writes, "No other sapsucker should have that much juvenile plumage in mid-October. In addition, there is no red yet on the throat which Red-naped have already by now, and the back pattern looks fine for Yellow-bellied.""
