I recently got an expensive little device called a BirdWeather PUC that listens for and identifies bird calls and left it on my deck to see what it discovers.
The species list and amount of times detected.
Blue Jay 121 detections Black Capped Chickadee 119:detections American Goldfinch 49 detections Golden Crowned Kinglet 31 detections Hairy Woodpecker 27 detections Tufted Titmouse 22 detections Eastern Bluebird 16 detections Dark Eyed Junco 14 detections Northern Cardinal 15 detections Brown Creeper 11 detections Fish Crow 9 detections White Breasted Nuthatch 9 detections Cedar Waxwing 5 detections White Throated Sparrow 4 detections Canada Goose 2 detections Common Loon 1 detections Yellow Bellied Sapsucker 1 detections Greater Yellowlegs 1 detections American Crow 1 detections Downy Woodpecker 1 detections
I notice a few oddities right off the back.
Common Loon, Greater Yellowlegs, and Fish Crow all seem unlikely. Also the relatively high Hairy to Downy count.
Clicking on the sightings reveals some additional info.
Fish crow has a confidence level applied to its calls recorded that ranges from 56-79%.
Common Loon confidence 62% probability 15%
Greater Yellowlegs confidence 69% probability 7%
For the crows, well, my local crows and ravens make a lot of weird noises in the fall and winter months, maybe that throws the device off.
I have no idea where the yellowlegs or loon sound IDs came from.
