The 18th annual Pondicherry Big Sit Birding Event will be held Saturday 12 October 2024 from pre-dawn to dusk at Cherry Pond in Jefferson. Birders are welcome to assist in the count held from the Tudor Richard Platform. Access is by foot or bicycle from the trailheads on 289 Airport Road in Whitefield or 794 Meadows Rd in Jefferson. The distance in is 1.6 miles or 2.4 miles respectively on the nearly flat rail trail.
The tamarack is turning golden and we still have some good foliage color in the area. Dress for the weather and the forecast is calling for a high of 51, showers in the morning, and winds of 20-25 mph out of the NW. Not ideal for birding but it may keep waterfowl on the pond.
