Dickcissel (Spiza americana) (1)
- Reported Sep 30, 2024 17:07 by Toby Fowler
- Maria Ygnacio Creek--north of US 101, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.8033118&<ll...>,-119.8033118
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S197154368
- Comments: "Showed back up as I was leaving under the same fig tree. Associating with another cardinal sp., based on beak size. Probably a LABU. Later with some sparrows and such, still on the hill.

Young type, with not much yellow but still the intricate patterning of a dickcissel: malar stripe bordered by brown giving way to a light throat, eyebrow (though this individuals was more white than yellow), as well as red-brown wings kind of like a house sparrow. Chest was streaky.

Fantastic bird, they were one of my misses of this year because I didn't get a chance to check out the spot where they breed back home this summer, so this is truly a great sighting."
