Subject: [sbcobirding] Tree and brush clearance in euc groves
All,

Earlier this fall, I had noticed some trees and saplings had been removed at Winchester One. Yesterday, I saw that further removal had taken place with all the smaller lerpy eucs removed. This is major negative for birds as the removed trees provided good quality foraging as they had lots of leaves.

I ran into Adrian later and he told me that there is a plan to clear out ALL understood and smaller trees from many areas to reduce fire risk. While I can somewhere like the Ellwood Grove presenting a fire risk, it's very questionable to claim Winchester One presents one, given its limited size and already open understood.

I am very concerned about what may happen to Evergreen and Ellwood as well as various creeks. Is this something that Audubon is looking at?

Regards,
