Official Counter: Alan Simon, Dave Eberly
Observers: Bob Kelly, Bruce Childs, Dave Eberly, Max Smith
Visitors: Two 3-4 year olds stopped by to help us count but their interest in hawk watching was quickly forgotten when Spiderman showed up at the park. (really!)
Weather: Skies mostly clear with just a few scattered wispy clouds. Winds were nonexistent or very gentle and east SE when present. Temps mid 70s F.
Raptor Observations: Only 4 migrating raptors on this very quiet, still day. red-tailed hawks and both vultures were constantly in the sky. A juvenile Cooper's hawk was observed attempting to snatch spotted lanternflys out of the air with some impressive acrobatics but not much apparent luck. One definite miss was observed. No certain hits were noted. 2 red-shouldered hawks and 1 merlin were seen but determined to be not migrating.
Non-raptor Observations: 2 common ravens were observed today. This species has become almost a daily visitor at our site this year.
15 Monarchs were counted
Predictions: Looks like more of the same. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. South wind 5 to 9 mph.
A weakening cold front is predicted to pass over Saturday night and mild north winds are expected on Sunday but temperatures will remain above seasonal average. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Eberly (<david.eberly...>) Rose Tree Park information may be found at: www.rtphawkwatch.org
