Rare, out-of-place and out-of-season species include:
—-On July 19 a Cassin’s Kingbird was reported 3 miles west of Rollinsville along Tolland Road by Diane Roberts. This is the first eBird county report.
—-On July 18 a Yellow-breasted Chat was reported at Golden Gate Canyon SP, down the road from the visitor center, by Art Reisman. This is the first eBird county report.
—-On July 20 a (m)Costa’s Hummingbird was reported near the west end of Jackson CR 22 by Steve Mlodinow. It was perched on a thin wire on right side of road (as one is headed nw.) about 15 feet above scraggly line of willows. The first first house on right side of 22 has a hummingbird feeder but somewhat hostile occupants. The second house (100-200 yards past) had very friendly occupants who rehab injured birds. Costa’s was between two houses, unfortunately, nearer first house and flew in that direction.
—-On July 20 an Eastern Phoebe was reported at Arapahoe NWR by Felice Lyons. This is the first eBird county report.
—-On July 19 (13) BAIRD’S SPARROW were reported at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area by Andy Bankert. Note, last July Andy officially confirmed breeding of Baird’s Sparrow for the first time in Colorado at Soapstone Prairie Natural Area.
—On July 20 (2) LUCY’S WARBLER were reported at Gateway Cottonwoods. (2) birds have been seen several times at this location, although there is no confirmed breeding. First reported on July 16 by Nic Norte with credit to Mark and Denise Vollmar and Eileen Cunningham who discovered them during their Bluebird Box Survey.
—-On July 18 a Dickcissel was reported at 27 Rd/Nucla -WTO. First reported on July 1 by Brenda Wright and Coen Dexter. This is the first eBird county record.
