Subject: [ia-bird] Lake Manawa, Pottawattamie County, Iowa
This morning Lake Manawa was full of waterfowl, approximately 20,000 birds, that were mostly Lesser Scaup. A surprise for us was the large number of Hooded Mergansers. We came up with more than 900.

Other birds that we saw were:

Surf Scoter - 2
Common Merganser - 2
Red-breasted Merganser - 1
Common Goldeneye - 3
Green-winged Teal - 2
Bufflehead - 100+
Gadwall - 30
Ring-necked Duck - 100+
Canvasback - 3
Redhead - 2
Ruddy Duck - 50
Horned Grebe - 3
Common Loon - 1
American White Pelican - 4
Double-crested Cormorant - 6
American Coot - approx. 100
Ring-billed gull - approx. 50
Bonaparte’s Gull - 3
