> - Comments: "Medium sized owl with long wings. Was on ground and silently flushed in front of me at 10 yards. Immediate first impressions was how contesting the mottled brown back was to the very white underside as the bird flared in front. The wings were noticeably long in relation to the size of the body. Floppy, slow flight. Buoyant in the air. Black crescent feathers at wrists with slight black edge to primaries. These marking really stood out. Underside was white with brown streaking on breast. The tail was so short I have no description. It flew 100 yards and landed on the ground. The habitat was a managed pheasant field. R/O NOHA by lack of white rump patch, under wing coloration and short tail. R/O RLHA by white coverts and crescent black versus black spot and short tail. Both of these species I am very familiar with. Due to this being an active hunt, I motioned to the bird as we continued on. 5 minutes later we stopped and I asked if they saw the bird. They both did and I asked what their impression was. “That hawk was all white underneath”, “those wings were really long”, “it didn’t seem like it was in a hurry leaving flopping like that”."
