Subject: [MDBirding] Black Terns on Potomac, Mont. County

Birding was as expected very slow in the midday heat, but rewarded
with at least 6 Black Terns working low on the Potomac just up river
from the boat ramp at Algonkian Park in Loudoun, Co., Va. These birds
were observed from Virginia but all are over Maryland waters.
Terns all in either adult nonbreeding or juvenile plumage. Frequent dips
along the surface river, no dives. Plenty of Rough-winged,
with a few Tree and Barn swallows in the the mix.
I would place them around a 1/2 mile above Rileys Lock, Seneca, Md
