Observation start time: 08:30:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6.5 hours
Official Counter: David Brunstetter
Observers: John Slaughter
Visitors: A few folks driving through stopped to chat. A gentleman who goes to the Waggoner's Gap watch in PA was surprised we had not had many birds yet. My thanks to Dave P and John for helping out today. Carl, we miss you at the watch.
Weather: Morning clouded up quickly and rain started at 9:45a EST. Afternoon cleared pleasantly to partly cloudy skies. Initial temp of 70F dropped to 65F with the rains and then rebounded to 76F in the afternoon. Winds were primarily W with a few periods of NW to N. Speed was a 2-3. Lots of haze when it wasn't raining with visibility a 2.
Raptor Observations: First bird was an Osprey at 11:55a (after the rains). Had a redtail come in to roost in front of the hawk watch at the end of the day. Heard a Barred Owl at the end of the watch.
Non-raptor Observations: Had a number of swifts. TV's and ravens were present. Spotted a few Goldfinch. Had 10 monarchs.
Predictions: Warmin' up. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brunstetter (<DRB57...>) Harvey's Knob information may be found at: http://bijame.googlepages.com/home
