Dear Birders,
>
> Ideal conditions at Presque Isle made for a banner day. Temps stayed between 54 and 62 degrees until 2:30 PM. A light breeze was out of the East and the sun was present most of the time with some cloud cover.
>
> I have never experienced the number of warblers at PI that were present. Tallying over 500 by myself was a remarkable number in one day. Twenty-six species were recorded between 6:15 and 2:15.
>
> Notable warblers included a single Morning singing on A Trail at 2:00. A Connecticut was seen on Grave Yard Trail. One Cerulean was found near Thompson Circle.
>
> Nine Philadelphia Vireos were tabulated. Swainson Thrushes numbered close to 30. Eight Lincoln Sparrows were above average.
>
> But the warblers were the real show with 28 Cape May, 32 Magnolia, and 28 Blackburnian.
>
> I picked up Prothonotary and Hooded on my way home. Total species for the day was 116.
>
> Some days it pays to get up at 4:00 A.M. Oh yeah, two Least Bitterns were flushed at 6:15 near Leo’s.
>
> I have not seen warbler numblers this high at PI in 25 Springs.
