Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 12:30:00 Total observation time: 4.5 hours
Official Counter: Jerry McWilliams
Observers: Ken Felix, Sam Stull
Visitors: Ken Felix and Sam Stull assisted with the count. Linda McWilliams stopped by. Tom, the bus driver, enthusiastically visited with us with interest in the hawk watching while waiting for school students taking a class at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center to dismiss.
Weather: Lots of sun with patches of cirrus clouds. A good SW wind early becoming west and even NW at times right along the lake. Very warm with temps. reaching the upper 70s F
Raptor Observations: A very sparse scattered flight mostly a half mile away from the lake. TVs were the main event with low numbers of everything else. When the wind shifted to the WNW around mid-day, the flight abruptly stopped.
Non-raptor Observations: Great Blue Heron--1, Green Heron--1, Common Loon--1, Double-crested Cormorant--15, Chimney Swift--1, Belted Kingfisher--1, Bank Swallow--1, Barn Swallow--5, Blue Jay--263, Baltimore Oriole--1, American Goldfinch--3
Predictions: The winds should be right, but thunderstorms are predicted for the day. After the last couple of days, even if there is a break, it doesn't look promising for a flight.
